PAulo Freire Freedom School's MISSION
Paulo Freire Freedom School is a joyful and just community dedicated to environmental sustainability and social justice that embraces creative, collaborative and compassionate teaching and learning.
CITY CENTER FOR COLLABORATIVE LEARNING's Mission
CITY Center designs, implements, and advances exemplary practices in teaching and learning that transform the lives of young people and their educators.
Every week, a whole grade level of PFFSU students head out into the community to spend the day on an Expedition. Expeditions allow students to connect with the community, learn from professionals in their field, develop their social skills, expand their curiosity through hands-on learning, and interact with nature.
Students will start the year collaborating with the scientists at the Flandrau Center on the U of A campus. Flandrau’s intertidal ecology program aligns perfectly with PFFSU’s interdisciplinary curriculum on life sciences and the literature of ecology. This project-based unit expands the idea of environmental justice to recognize the inherent rights of the environment and amplifies community voices for and from the environment.
Our three schools are recruiting qualified and passionate substitute teachers to join our team. Our subs earn $25/hour, which is significantly more money than other districts.
A valid Arizona IVP FCC is required. Please complete the substitute application form if you are interested. We will follow up with a phone call to discuss next steps.
Welcome Back! We are so excited to have you back at PFFS-U for another great school year.
City High School musicians are performing at the iconic Rialto Theatre on Tuesday, May 16th. Music Mayhem! is a fundraiser for CITY Center's Music Workshop program. This amazing event is demonstration of the powerful collaboration between CITY Center and The Rialto. Tickets cost $10 and are available at the door the night of the event. Doors open at six pm and the City High bands will perform from 7-9 pm.
Although there is currently a waiting list for seventh and eighth grade, we have available spots in our incoming sixth grade class for the 23-24 school year. Please complete an enrollment form if you are interested in enrolling your rising fifth grade student for fall enrollment at PFFS.
Our 8th graders were invited to the Raytheon Advancing Youth in STEM (RAYS) event at the University of Arizona where they learned about engineering and assembled their own telescope. It was a great experience. Our students are regularly getting out into the community to learn with experts in their fields. This community engagement is foundational to the authentic and meaningful learning at our school.
